"I Feel Like I Can Fly": Viola's Story

For thirty years, Viola lived with dentures that made her sick. Not uncomfortable. Sick. Dizzy, in pain, nearly passing out. She had learned to manage around them, to eat carefully, to smile carefully, to live carefully. Then she walked into Local Start Dental. And everything changed.
Thirty Years of the Wrong Solution
It started with a car accident. Viola's mouth hit the steering wheel, and the damage was severe enough that she needed dentures. She got them. Life went on.
But over the years, those dentures stopped working. They became ill-fitting, then painful, then something worse. They made her so sick she would nearly pass out. For three decades, Viola managed a prosthesis that was never quite right, that her body had never quite accepted, that stole more from her life than most people around her probably knew.
This is more common than it should be. Patients come to Local Start Dental after years of managing dental solutions that don't serve them: dentures that don't fit, prostheses that cause pain, situations they've accepted because they didn't know there was another option, or because another option felt out of reach.
Viola knew there had to be something better. She just needed someone to help her find it.
Walking Through the Door
The first appointment at a new dental clinic can feel vulnerable, especially after years of difficulty and disappointment. Viola remembers walking into Local Start Dental and feeling something she hadn't expected.
"The reception was wonderful. Dr. Serag was awesome. Everybody on the staff made me feel so good and relaxed. I felt like there was hope."
That last sentence is the one that stays with you. After thirty years, hope was what she felt walking through our door for the first time.
Finding the Right Solution
When Viola came to Local Start Dental, she had snap-in overdentures. They were, as her care team would determine, very non-functional. The evaluation revealed that the prosthesis she had wasn't the right fit for her anatomy or her needs.
Viola knew what she wanted: something permanent. Something she wouldn't have to take in and out. Something that would finally feel like part of her.
After a thorough evaluation with Dr. Serag, the team recommended a fixed implant denture, what's known as a hybrid denture. Upper and lower. A permanent, implant-supported solution that would give her the stability and comfort her previous dentures never could.
It was the right call.
"I Feel Like I Can Fly"

After her procedure, Viola smiled.
"I feel like I can fly," she said. "I can eat what I want now. I'm so happy."
Thirty years of painful, ill-fitting dentures. Thirty years of managing around a problem that was never solved. And now: she can eat what she wants. She smiles. She feels like she can fly.
This is the work Local Start Dental does every day. Not just the clinical procedure, but the restoration of something patients had stopped believing was possible for them. Viola didn't come to us as a last resort. She came because she finally had hope that someone could actually help. And we could.
Stories Like Viola's Are Why We Exist
Every patient who walks through Local Start Dental's doors carries a story. Some have avoided dental care for years because of cost. Some have been managing painful, inadequate solutions like Viola was. Some are coming to us after being turned away or priced out elsewhere.
What they find here is a team that sees them, listens to them, and builds a treatment plan around what they actually need, not just what's easiest or most available.
If Viola's story sounds familiar, we want to hear from you. A first appointment is the first step.
If you've seen what dental care like this can do for someone and want to make it possible for more patients, your support directly funds care for people who cannot otherwise afford it.
